SPRING RACING OPENS WITH THE ICEBREAKER SPECIAL 

Fort Morgan, Colorado, April 21, 2008  –  Racing was so hot it didn't take much to break the ice as I-76 Speedway's 20th summer season of racing beginning with the annual Ice Breaker Special, Sunday, April 20th.  Terrific weather lent to the huge number of cars and the full grandstands, and the drivers putting on a spectacular show.    

The elite late model group, the Colorado Late Model Association, highlighted the race event with their big powerful cars. Gary Dechant of Northglenn, took charge of the Main Event race after a second lap incident, and kept all competition behind him the entire 25 laps.

In the Modifieds Main Event, Joe Mullins of Boulder, left pole and held his position for the first seven laps, but had to give it up to young Eddie Belec of Lakewood, who just ate up the track for a big win.

            The SportMod class, formerly called the E-Mods, has just tripled in size and has created an exciting competition of their own.  After eight lead changes, Bob Goetchell of Fort Lupton, took the win on the last lap.

            Doug Jensen of Golden, bested the Street Stock division Main Event.  Ed Lundquist of Fort Morgan, came out on top of the Econos.  Previous Econo driver, Chris Walker of Fort Morgan, walked away with the Mini-Stocks Main, and Sammy Gallo of Arvada, handily won the 600 Mini-Sprint division.
