MIDGETS HIGHLIGHT RACES AT I-76

Fort Morgan, Colorado, May 10th 2008  –  The wind didn't blow away super racing at I-76 Speedway, and the RMMRA Midget Club was a highlight of the night.

The RMMRA Midgets were added to this Saturday's races after last week's race cancellation, and they put on a spectacular show.  The track was wet and heavy, but fast.  Early in the Midget Main Event, Bobby Harr of Arvada, laid his midget over and two laps later, three cars tangled and two of those cars tumbled and rolled, but the drivers were unhurt.  Then they got on to good racing with Tony Rossi of Arvada, trying to get around Keith Rauch of Edgewater, the entire race.  Rauch led from pole to the checkered flag for the win.  Rossi accepted second, and Robert Hanley of Foxfield, the last car on the lead lap, took third.

The Modified Main Event was a happiness and heartbreak race.  Ricky Alvarado of Delta, blew an engine in his Heat Race, changed engines, won the B-Main, and got into the back of the A-Main.  Alvarado worked his way to third in the A-Main and lost the second engine with five laps to go.  John Hansen of Brush, took the lead early from Ricky's brother, Bubba Alvarado of Kersey, for his second big Main Event win.  Cliff Lawson of Arvada, hammered his way from the fifth row to finish second, with Tim Anderson of Fort Morgan, finishing third.

            It's been great to seeing how quickly the SportMod division has grown to a full class, and watch their great racing.  In the Main Event, Mike Ziegler of Fort Morgan, took the lead after six bumpy first green flag starts, and kept the lead for all but two laps for his first win of the season.  Darren Green of Fort Morgan, doggedly held on to second spot, with Nick Engen of Erie, a close third.

            Justin Simonson of Wheat Ridge, wasn't content with second place last race, so he moved into the lead and ran away with the Street Stock Main Event this week.  Mike McFarland of Fort Morgan, took second after a short lead, and Mike Smith of Fort Morgan, finished his first race of the season in third.

            Jim McKenzie of Boulder controlled the lead in the Econo Main Event until he was trapped in lapped traffic with just four laps to go.  Loren Walker of Fort Morgan, got around him and first place, leaving McKenzie for second.  Brad Hill of Flagler, came in third.  

            The Mini-Stocks and Mod-Lites filled up the night's slate with Kevin Hiner of Greeley winning the Mini-Stock Main, and Brad Bayne of Ault, winning in the Mod-Lites.
